11 Great Places For Lunch In The Green Bay Area

There are a multitude of great restaurants in Green Bay WI

Green Bay, Wisconsin is so much more than football. Yes, the Packers are a huge draw, but this city also boasts an incredible food scene, a lively downtown Green Bay atmosphere, and some of the best restaurants in Green Bay that are worth your time.

I have eaten my way around the city more than once, and I always look for local gems. Chain restaurants are easy to find anywhere, but when I am visiting somewhere new, I want a meal that gives me a real feel for the local culture. That means good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and maybe a little personality on the menu too.

These are some of my favorite restaurants in Green Bay WI for lunch, and I would go back to every one of them.

Take a ride to nearby Sheboygan for these fabulous restaurants.

Key Takeaways

  • Diverse Local Flavors: Green Bay offers a vibrant culinary landscape that goes beyond standard chains, featuring everything from French-inspired bistros and upscale American dining to cozy, artisan-focused eateries.
  • Essential Wisconsin Experiences: Visitors looking for an authentic local meal should prioritize spots offering traditional Wisconsin staples, such as Friday fish fries, beer cheese soup, and fried cheese curds.
  • Unique Atmospheres: The city’s dining scene is defined by its personality, with restaurants housed in converted chapels, located inside the historic Lambeau Field, or adorned with local art.
  • Beyond the City Center: While downtown Green Bay is home to many gems, the nearby village of Suamico offers high-quality, destination-worthy dining that is well worth a short drive.

Plae Bistro

Plae Bistro is one of those places I never mind revisiting. Every time I go, I leave happy. If you are looking for an inviting French restaurant style bistro, this locally owned establishment is a great pick. The menu features a diverse selection of American cuisine with a modern twist, offering plenty of healthy choices alongside creative dishes that keep the experience interesting.

Plae Bistro is female-owned, which I love, and the lunch menu has a nice mix of options served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. My favorite is the Grilled Fig Panini. The fig and brie are such a good combo, and if I am feeling extra hungry, I add grilled chicken breast. They also have the Truffle Burger, the Sandwich of the Moment, and lunch combos with soup, a half wrap, or a half salad.

If you like a little something special with lunch, there are seasonal drinks, craft beer, and wine too. Plae Bistro is a little outside of town near Costco.

a’Bravo

When I am looking for the best restaurants in Green Bay WI, a’Bravo is consistently one of the first places that comes to mind. The menu is packed with healthy choices, including plenty of gluten-free and low-carb options, but the food remains exciting and flavorful.

The menu highlights a wonderful variety of American cuisine, ranging from fresh, vibrant salads to hearty dishes. I could have started with the Brussels sprouts, and I would happily order the Berry Salad again as well. If you want something richer, the Best Ever Lobster and Seafood Mac and Cheese is a standout choice. I had a hard time deciding what to order on my first visit because there are so many interesting items. I eventually chose the Shrimp and Vegetable Noodle Bowl. It was spicy, which the waiter kindly warned me about, but I loved it. It is rare to find a meal that feels like a nutritious lunch choice while still being this indulgent.

Beyond the food, a’Bravo provides excellent catering options for local events, making it a versatile staple in the community. The atmosphere is bright and lively, and the full bar features specialty martinis, making it an intimate setting for a girls’ day out in Green Bay.

1919 Kitchen and Tap

If you are a Packers fan and want to mix lunch with a little football history, 1919 Kitchen and Tap is a smart stop. Located directly inside Lambeau Field, this pub and grill is one of the most fun lunch restaurants in Green Bay for visitors.

By the time you tour the Hall of Fame, stop by the Pro Shop, and take your Lambeau Leap photo, you will probably be ready for a hearty meal. The menu items include a variety of pub favorites, such as burgers, salads, and a kids’ menu, alongside local comfort food like Parmesan Breaded Cheese Curds and Beer Cheese Bisque.

My favorite is the Grilled Cheese with American and Muenster cheese plus smoked bacon. And yes, you should try the Beer Cheese Bisque. If you are there on a Friday, they serve the traditional Wisconsin Friday fish fry, which is always a good idea in this state. Fried cheese curds and a Friday fish fry are an essential part of the Wisconsin experience, in my opinion.

Even if you aren’t a football fan, lunch at Lambeau has a special kind of energy.

White Dog, Local Green Bay Eatery

If you are looking for a lunch spot in downtown Green Bay that feels fun, artsy, and a little bit quirky, White Dog is an excellent choice. The menu features a diverse selection of American cuisine, including burgers, salads, poke, and sandwiches, so there is plenty to satisfy any craving.

What I enjoy just as much as the food is the setting. Local artwork covers the walls, and the space maintains a creative atmosphere without trying too hard. During the warmer months, you can enjoy outdoor patio seating that features live music entertainment, which makes the dining experience even better.

I personally recommend the fish tacos, which are a standout on the menu.

Hinterland

The Titletown District has grown fast in recent years, and Hinterland Brewery and Restaurant is one of its anchors. I enjoy the lively setting near Lambeau Field, and the menu changes daily, which keeps things fresh. It is also a fantastic choice for those seeking private dining options if you are looking to host special events near the stadium.

The kitchen focuses on locally sourced ingredients to create high-quality pizzas, sandwiches, and hearty lunch entrees. If the Fried Brussel Sprout Blossoms are on the menu, I highly recommend ordering them. Since this is a destination for enthusiasts of craft beer, you will find plenty of house brews available to pair perfectly with your meal.

Copper State Brewing

Copper State Brewing has that cozy industrial feel I always like, with brick walls, a coffee bar, a gastropub menu, and brewery options all in one place. As a locally owned establishment, it offers a warm, casual dining atmosphere that is perfect for any afternoon outing.

You can stop in for lunch with friends, bring your partner, or go solo. The menu highlights a variety of American cuisine, featuring wood-fired pizza, fresh salads, burgers, and sandwiches. I had the Truffle Shuffle when I was there with friends, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are a craft beer enthusiast, the Platinum Blonde Coffee Stout paired with a King of Grilled Cheese sandwich sounds like a very solid lunch plan.

Not By Bread Alone

Not By Bread Alone is a local favorite for good reason. I recently enjoyed lunch there with my friend Erin, and it proved to be the perfect casual dining choice for catching up. You order at the counter, and the menu items feature a selection of salads, sandwiches, and soups that sound simple at first but consistently deliver impressive flavors.

This bakery has been a staple in Green Bay Wisconsin since the early 1980s. It started with a focus on fresh bread and baked goods before expanding into the welcoming space it occupies today. I ordered the Chicken Tuscan salad with a light lemon vinaigrette and paired it with a lavender lemonade. It was a fantastic combination. Of course, it is nearly impossible to walk past the bakery case without stopping, as there are always plenty of delicious treats tempting you along the way.

A quick note, they are only open until noon on Saturday.

Chives

Lunch at Chives feels like more than just a typical meal. They offer small, medium, and large plates, so it works perfectly whether you want a light bite or a heartier dish.

The menu features a variety of elevated options, including crab cakes, BLTs, and an open-faced rib-eye sandwich that captures the quality of a classic steakhouse. Other standout dishes include the Pesto Baked Cod, Chicken Marsala, Classic Fish and Chips, and the Butternut Squash Ravioli, which is a personal favorite. Beyond the food, the intimate setting of the historic building makes the atmosphere hard to beat.

This is a premier local destination that frequently earns recognition, including Travelers Choice Awards for its consistent quality. Given its popularity, the weekly feature menu can change without notice, so if you have your eye on something special, it is a good idea to check the website or call ahead. For your convenience, the restaurant offers online reservations to ensure your table is ready.

Rustique

Who can resist pizza? I sure can’t. Rustique is one of the best places for pizza near Green Bay, and I am always happy to recommend it for lunch. As a popular locally owned establishment in Suamico, it offers a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a great choice for a family restaurant.

Rustique is well known for authentic Italian cuisine prepared in a brick oven, but they also serve sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and a classic Wisconsin Friday fish fry. Their menu has all the usual favorites, like cheese, supreme, and veggie lovers, but the more creative pizzas are what really stand out.

I am talking about the Uncle Rico, which is kind of like a taco pizza, the Conquistador with mac and cheese on top, the Club Med, and the shrimp and asparagus pizza. Yes, shrimp and asparagus. That one has stayed on my mind, and I still want to try it.

The setting is a big part of the fun too. Rustique is located in an old chapel, which gives it a memorable feel. If you are in downtown Green Bay during the summer, you might also spot their food truck at the Farmer’s Market on Broadway. Lunch hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only.

Spork Cafe

If brunch sounds better than a straight lunch, Spork Cafe is a fun little stop in Suamico that specializes in high-quality comfort food. The menu rotates frequently, but you can always count on finding creative dishes that satisfy your cravings.

You might find breakfast burritos, omelets, French toast, eggs Benedict, quiche, or grilled cheese served with tomato basil soup. That was my personal choice, and the bacon jam gave it just the right amount of extra flavor. It is a fantastic spot when you want something casual, tasty, and a little different from the usual Green Bay lunch spots. In addition to their dine-in service, they offer excellent catering options for local events.

Cafe Con Crema

I recently enjoyed brunch at Cafe Con Crema for the first time, and it was a delightful experience. While this spot is primarily known for its breakfast menu, they also serve a variety of lunch options including burgers, salads, wraps, and sandwiches. It is a fantastic place to refuel if you have been spending your morning exploring the nearby Fox River Trail.

My friend and I both opted for breakfast items during our visit. I enjoyed the avocado toast with scrambled eggs, and Erin ordered a crepe. I highly recommend pairing your meal with one of their signature Bloody Mary drinks to round out the brunch experience. The parking lot was packed when I arrived, confirming its popularity, but consistent customer reviews often highlight how the dining room remains spacious enough to avoid long waits for a table.
