It makes for the best camping when you are exploring Door County. It’s within walking distance of some of the best shops and restaurants in the county. Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is inside the park. It’s one of a few lighthouses you can see. Also, the newly built Eagle Tower is an accessible tower that features an easy to navigate ramp that takes you to the platform. You have amazing views of the bay from 250 feet above the water. Peninsula State Park also has one of the best sandy beaches in the area.
Potawatomi State Park
Situated on the shore of Sturgeon Bay, Potawatomi State Park offers a peaceful retreat with over 120 sites, a boat launch, and numerous fishing opportunities. Don’t miss the Ice Age Trail for hiking! This portion of the Ice Age Trail is the eastern terminus of the 1200 mile trail that meanders along the glacial line through Wisconsin. Located near the northern tip of Door County, Wagon Trail Campground offers 150 sites in a peaceful setting with a variety of wooded campsites. Wagon Trail Campground is consistently rated one of the best rated Door County campgrounds. Its clean restrooms and modern facilities, Wi-Fi, and nearby kayak rentals add to its appeal. If you stay here, you must head over to Rowleys Bay Resort and get a fresh pecan roll from Grandma’s Swedish Bakery. No camper, no problem. I’ve stayed in one of their yurts and have had a comfortable, fun experience. In my opinion this private campground offers a best Door County camping experience for those seeking a quiet wooded campground.

Winter Camping in Door County
Peninsula State Park
Peninsula State Park has 18 available plowed sites in winter. These can be located in the Tennison Bay area of the campground. They also provide electric, but water will need to be got at the Tennison Bay well house. You can make reservations for winter camping in advance, or the day of. The great thing is that while it’s not so easy to get a site in summer at Peninsula, you may get one in winter!
